Falcon in the Dive
"Many of the key films in the career of horror icon Vincent Price (1911-1993) contain commentaries both obvious and subtle on the role of women, not only in the context of the times in which the films were created, but also during the historical periods depicted in the storylines. This examination of Price's horror films focuses on how the principal female characters--portrayed by such notable actresses as Barbara Steele, Hazel Court and Diana Rigg, to name but a few--are simultaneously villains, victims and objects of veneration. Also considered are issues of gender and sexuality as addressed in Vincent Price's most memorable movies. Included are dozens of rare production stills and a selected filmography that provides significant background information on the films cited."
"Vincent Price is my all-time favorite horror film star. As a child I saw virtually every film he starred in. As a result of this, I enjoy reading any book or article I come across on him.
When I ordered this book I assumed it was some sort of biography of the wonderful actresses that appeared with him such as Hazel Court, Barbara Steele, Diana Rigg, Caroline Munro, etc. I was wrong. This book is a scholarly tome on the role gender played in each of his horror films, especially the gothic-horror Edgar Allan Poe films he made for Roger Corman (my favorite horror films.) But the Poe films are not the only ones discussed. Among those discussed in detail include The Fly, the William Castle films (House on Haunted Hill and The Tingler,) The Last Man on Earth, the non-Corman Poe films (especially The Conqueror Worm,) Scream and Scream Again, Phibes, Theatre of Blood, etc."
...выделенное говорит само за себя - особенно тот факт, что это scholarly tome)
